Year 2      2024-2025

Welcome to the Year 2 Page! This page will help explain some of the awesome learning taking place in our year group!

Values in Action - Beyond our Best

The Year 2s have had an incredible first week, bringing our values to life! This week and next (after half term), we’re focusing on excellence—pushing ourselves to achieve our personal best with a growth mindset.

So far, we’ve set two personal challenges: one skill-based (tying shoelaces) and one endurance-based (the bleep test). Alongside this, we’re tackling daily team challenges and working on developing a brand-new skill with determination and perseverance…

Each team is embracing their journey:

Mr. Bowie’s group is becoming majestic musicians
Mrs. G’s team is flourishing as aspiring artists
Miss Brider’s group is mastering the art of stitching as sensational seamsters

Excellent times ahead!

Publishers!

Our Year 2 children are not only becoming talented authors through this literacy-led project but also stepping into the exciting role of publishers! During our first publishing session, they skillfully used ink pens to write the opening adventures of their imaginative fictional stories.

Traction Man

After accepting the challenge from the superhero Traction Man to become Awesome Authors, we needed a main character for our superhero stories. Enter: our favourite toys! To bring our characters to life, we created a Role on the Wall. This helped us dive deep into characterisation and build an amazing collection of descriptive words to make our main characters truly unforgettable.

French Cafe

The Year 2 children enjoyed a fantastic French experience this Friday at Madame Bond's French Café. They were fully immersed in French culture, sampling a variety of traditional foods, listening to French music, and practising the language. The children even had the chance to role-play as waiters and waitresses, using French words while serving. We are truly fortunate to have Madame Bond in our school community—she brings so much joy!

 PE

The first PE lesson of the year was so much fun! We had all the apparatus out and practised our fundamental movements like balancing and coordination.

 The Day the Crayons Quit

We have had a great first week in Year 2 with the launch of a brand new project, a mysterious letter arrived from a distraught little boy called Duncan whose crayons have QUIT.  The children will embark on a mission to help Duncan understand why he has not been a great friend.

We have also had our first library session with Mrs Needham and began our resilience sessions to help us with building character and never giving up!
