What is the Early Bird Club?

The role of our Early Bird Breakfast Club is to offer a “holistic” service with a child-centred ethos in a safe environment.  Our mains aims and priorities are to:-

  • Provide a healthy breakfast for the children in the club, to promote a good start to the day which improves concentration and learning in class.
  • Assist in providing and supervising safe play activities for the children
  • Build self-esteem and confidence of children attending the club, by helping to develop relationships, both with peers and adults in an informal “family” environment.
  • Support parents who may wish to return to work or provide more flexibility in working hours for parents

When does the Early Bird Club run?

The Early Bird club runs Monday to Friday in term-time from 8.00am until 8.45am (except on Inset days when the club is closed).

Children must arrive by 8.15am at the latest if they require a breakfast, or by 8:20am at the latest if they do not require a breakfast.

What does it offer?

We offer child supervision and a breakfast of fruit juice, milk or water, cereal or toast and jam, and fresh fruit, to meet the Government's compulsory nutritional standards for schools.  Facilities for cleaning teeth are available if required.

Who can attend?

The Early Bird Club is open to all children attending both Orchard Infant and Junior Schools.  Children attending from the Junior School will be escorted across to the Junior School at the start of their school day.  Children starting school in Year R must be attending school full-time and have settled in well before they can start attending.

We do have a capacity limit of available spaces, and so we recommend you block-book sessions to avoid disappointment.

How much does it Cost?

The cost per session from September 2023 will be £4.20 (Sessions must be booked in advance.)

How do I book?

Bookings are made under "Clubs" on the Arbor Portal or App.  (see instructions above).  Places must be booked and paid for in advance as places are limited to comply with adult/child ratios.  We recommend booking all required sessions for each half term in one block to avoid disappointment. Unfortunately no refunds/credits can be given for your child if they do not attend for any reason (including sickness) unless there is an emergency whole school closure (ie snow day).

How do I pay?

Payment must be made online using your credit/debit card via our Arbor Portal or App when you book your session.  If you are having difficulty logging into this system, please ask the school office for assistance.

If your child goes to Orchard Junior School, you must book using the Orchard Infant School Arbor Portal (Not Orchard Junior)  If your Junior school child has not attended the Early Bird Club this academic year, please contact the Infant School Office and we will add your child to the Infant School Arbor so that you can then book sessions for your child.
